In a moment that blends fandom, passion, and personal storytelling, popular anime YouTuber and Trash Taste podcast host Gigguk has announced his debut original anime project. Titled Baan – The Boundaries of Adulthood and stylized as Bâan, the isekai series was revealed at Anime Expo 2025 during the GeeXPlus, Inc. panel, which spotlighted new creator driven content being developed under the brand’s new animation wing, GeeXProductions.
The project represents a major step for anime content creators entering the realm of original storytelling. Baan is set in the fantasy world of Euthania, accessed through a warp gate in Japan. The setting is rooted in Southeast Asian and Thai mythology, offering a refreshing cultural lens that sets it apart from traditional isekai worlds. The story revolves around two protagonists, Rin and Daichi, who leave behind their homes in search of a place where they truly belong. At its heart, the narrative explores themes of identity, purpose, and the liminal space between youth and adulthood.
The series is being directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi, best known for his work on Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, ensuring that Baan benefits from experienced visual and narrative direction. Music composition is handled by Kevin Penkin, whose emotionally resonant scores in Made in Abyss and Tower of God have made him one of the most celebrated composers in the anime space. The inclusion of Penkin adds depth and cinematic energy to the emotional arcs within Baan.
What makes Baan especially unique is the deeply personal touch Gigguk has brought into its creation. In a YouTube video released shortly after the panel, he shared insights into the emotional journey behind the anime, describing the project as a creative reflection of his own struggles, growth, and uncertainties as an adult. The character Rin, voiced in English by Gigguk’s wife Sydney Poniewaz, is described as their spiritual “child,” embodying both of their personalities. Sydney brings Rin’s bright energy to life, while Gigguk’s scriptwriting infuses the character with emotional depth and vulnerability. The Japanese dub will feature Haruna Mikawa as Rin and Shoya Ishige as Daichi, offering dual language appeal from the start.
The animation is being handled by Studio Daisy, a newer but ambitious studio taking on its biggest project to date. The anime will premiere in theaters at Grand Cinema Sunshine in Japan this August, before being released globally on Gigguk’s YouTube channel for free. The release will include a behind the scenes documentary chronicling the development of the anime, making it a project not just about storytelling, but about creative transparency and connection with the audience.
Baan represents more than just another isekai. It is a creator led effort that brings a deeply personal, culturally rich, and emotionally reflective story into the anime landscape. It is a bold move by a well known voice in anime commentary to step into the production world, but one that could set a precedent for future creator driven projects.
With a thoughtful blend of real emotion, cultural authenticity, and high quality production talent, Baan – The Boundaries of Adulthood is already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing anime experiments of the year.
