The world of isekai anime is about to get a new silent powerhouse as My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s builds momentum for its October release. With the new trailer now available, fans have their first proper look at the action-packed fantasy adaptation from studio SUNRISE, featuring the voice cast in action and a high-energy opening theme titled “Issen” performed by the virtual idol duo VESPERBELL.

The trailer introduces the voice of Takeo Otsuka as Akira Oda, the unassuming protagonist whose overwhelming assassin stats give him a surprising edge in a world where heroes are traditionally expected to shine. Saku Mizuno joins him as Amelia Rosequart, the elven spirit medium who stands beside him as both a guide and companion.

In addition to the leads, three new cast members were announced. Sanae Kobayashi voices Yoru, a mysterious black cat who turns out to be a magical beast. Konomi Tamura plays Lia Lagoon, a cryptic girl who knows far more than she lets on about the summoning ritual that brought Akira and his classmates into this strange world. And veteran voice actor Junichi Suwabe takes on the role of Saran Mislei, the stoic and calculating commander of the Kingdom of Reitis’ Knights.

At the heart of the story is Akira’s journey as someone who never stood out in his old life. Overlooked and forgotten, he suddenly finds himself in a deadly game where his silence and anonymity become his greatest strength. Summoned with his entire class to a fantasy world, Akira escapes the spotlight and slips into the role of an assassin. However, as he uncovers secrets surrounding the royal family and their true intentions, he realizes he has become a threat to the very people who summoned him. With Amelia at his side and his assassin skills sharpening by the day, Akira moves from survival to rebellion, determined to uncover the truth and challenge the power that betrayed him.

The anime is directed by Nobuyoshi Habara, with Kunihiko Okada handling the series composition and script. Character designs are being developed by Hirona Okada and Kaori Saito, while monster visuals come from Rihiro Yamane. Mitsuru Ishihara is leading the animation direction, and Satoshi Igarashi is composing the soundtrack.

Based on the light novel by Matsuri Akai with illustrations by Tozai, the series began its life as a web novel before gaining popularity in print and manga format. It has since been licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment, where both the novel and manga adaptations have gained a growing readership.

With its blend of underdog revenge, stealth combat, and complex political intrigue, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s offers a refreshing take on the isekai genre. The latest trailer showcases not only fluid animation and character dynamics but also hints at the deeper conspiracy at play beneath the surface of its fantasy setting.
