Anime fans looking for the next heartwarming fantasy romance can look forward to a charming new title coming soon. ‘There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her’ has been officially announced for a TV anime adaptation. Based on the original light novel by Suisei and illustrated by La na, this romantic fantasy comedy tells the story of Yoki, a mid tier demon boss with a soft heart, who finds himself caught up in emotions he never expected.
Kohei Amasaki has been cast as the protagonist Yoki, a 21 year old former human who is now part of the Demon Lord’s army. Despite his intimidating appearance and authority within the demon ranks, he is comically awkward when it comes to romance. Kana Hanazawa will voice Cecilia, a gentle and self sacrificing cleric from the hero’s party. While she brings warmth and guidance to her group, her interactions with Yoki reveal a different, softer layer that fans are eager to explore.
The series is being animated by Studio GEKKOU, with Yasutaka Yamamoto taking on the role of chief director and Tomonori Mine directing the project. Yukie Sugawara will be handling the series composition and script, while Mina Osawa leads character design. The soundtrack will be crafted by Satoru Kosaki and MONACA, known for their emotionally resonant compositions.
The first teaser visual introduces the audience to Yoki and Cecilia, promising a colorful blend of romance, light hearted humor, and fantasy adventure. Voice actor Kohei Amasaki described Yoki as a character full of teenage like wonder despite his age and demonic role, which makes him both endearing and relatable. Kana Hanazawa praised Cecilia’s nurturing personality and her emotional journey that becomes more vibrant upon meeting Yoki.
The original novel has already won fans with its mix of romantic tension and humorous fantasy, and the manga adaptation by Kairi has only deepened its appeal. Serialized on Manga Gaogao and Gaogao Monster Plus, the story has steadily built a following, drawn to its unique perspective where even a demon can feel shy in love.
The premise of the anime captures a delicate balance between world building and character driven storytelling. Yoki’s peaceful routine as a demon in the castle is disrupted not by war or conflict, but by a flutter of unexpected feelings. His admiration for Cecilia, despite their differences, sets up a romantic tension that unfolds amidst the backdrop of epic fantasy.
A special illustration celebrating the announcement was also released by the manga artist, capturing the warm energy of this unlikely love story. With high expectations from both the light novel and manga fanbase, the anime is poised to deliver a story that is as sweet as it is magical.
