Takopi’s Original Sin has officially taken the anime community by storm. As of Week 4 in the Summer 2025 anime season, the emotional sci-fi drama has claimed the number one spot in the weekly rankings for the fourth consecutive time. Produced by ENISHIYA and streaming since June 28, the six-episode series wrapped up this past Friday, leaving behind a wave of praise and powerful reactions from fans.
The Week 4 rankings were compiled from 10,272 participants, and Takopi’s Original Sin received 6.30 percent of the total votes. It outperformed several popular titles including DAN DA DAN Season 2 and Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze. This consistency is a testament to how deeply the series has resonated with viewers.
Throughout its run, Takopi’s Original Sin steadily held its lead. In Week 1, it grabbed 8.10 percent of the votes from over 9,400 participants, edging out fan favorites like Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2. Week 2 saw the percentage climb to 8.72 as its emotional intensity and unique storytelling captivated a growing audience. Even in Week 3, with tougher competition, it stayed on top with 5.97 percent of the vote.
Directed and written by Shinya Iino, with character designs by Keita Nagahara, the anime is animated by ENISHIYA under the production of TBS Television. The final promotional video released after the finale highlights the tragic yet hopeful tone that has defined the series.
Based on the short manga by Taizan 5, Takopi’s Original Sin follows a pink alien octopus named Takopi whose mission is to spread happiness throughout the universe. His journey begins when he meets Shizuka, a deeply troubled elementary school girl. While his intentions are innocent, Takopi’s time-bending technology and naive optimism spiral into heartbreaking consequences. The manga was serialized on Shonen Jump+ from December 2021 to March 2022 and is available in English via VIZ Media.
Takopi’s journey is far from a lighthearted alien tale. Beneath its cute exterior lies a story of pain, healing, and the complexity of human emotions. Fans have lauded its blend of sci-fi and psychological drama, and the anime adaptation has only amplified its impact.
As the fifth and final weekly voting opens for the Summer 2025 season, the question now is whether Takopi’s Original Sin will achieve a clean sweep and end its run undefeated. Regardless of the outcome, the series has already carved out its place as one of the most emotionally resonant anime of the year.
