Takopi’s Original Sin has once again claimed the number one spot in the Anime Corner Summer 2025 weekly rankings, making it the top-rated anime for the third consecutive week. Despite strong competition from titles like DAN DA DAN Season 2 and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, the ENISHIYA-produced series continues to hold on to its position at the top with strong fan support and emotional storytelling.

The anime, which began streaming on June 28, has managed to capture hearts from the very first episode. It currently leads the rankings with 5.97 percent of the vote in Week 3, gathered from over 9,300 anime viewers. While that percentage marks a slight dip from previous weeks, it still outpaced its competitors by a clear margin. Earlier, the show earned 8.10 percent of the vote in Week 1 and 8.72 percent in Week 2, consistently staying ahead of well-established returning titles.

Takopi’s Original Sin is based on the manga written and illustrated by Taizan 5. Originally published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Plus between December 2021 and March 2022, the manga quickly drew attention for its haunting themes hidden beneath a deceptively cute exterior. VIZ Media holds the license for the English version, which dives into the story of a cheerful alien octopus named Takopi who arrives on Earth to spread happiness. However, his mission goes painfully off course when he meets a depressed fourth grader named Shizuka.

What begins as an innocent attempt to bring joy soon spirals into something much darker. Using futuristic technology to turn back time, Takopi’s efforts to fix pain and sorrow lead to consequences that are both tragic and irreversible. At its core, the series is not just a fantasy or science fiction tale but a layered emotional drama that explores themes of grief, memory, and the cost of good intentions.

The anime’s adaptation has been overseen by director Shinya Iino, who also handles series composition. Character designs are brought to life by Keita Nagahara, while the animation is led by Studio ENISHIYA in collaboration with TBS Television. The result is a visually expressive and emotionally intense production that matches the tone of the original manga while enhancing its psychological tension through animation.

What makes this series stand out in the current season is not just the narrative’s surprising depth but also how it continues to emotionally engage viewers week after week. With only one episode remaining, scheduled for release next Friday, the anticipation is at an all-time high.

The final episode will determine how this powerful and bittersweet story concludes, and whether Takopi will ultimately find a way to fulfill his mission of spreading happiness or be consumed by the emotional weight of his own mistakes. For now, the numbers speak for themselves. Takopi’s Original Sin has struck a chord with the anime community and firmly cemented its place as a standout title of the summer.
