The beloved fantasy light novel The Cat and the Dragon will make its TV anime debut in July 2026, as confirmed alongside a new teaser trailer and visual. The series will be produced by OLM, the studio behind Pokémon and Odd Taxi, and directed by Jin Gu Oh, with Takehito Koyasu voicing the gentle dragon, Nekoryuu.

Based on the novels by Amara and illustrated by Mai Okuma, the story follows a fearsome dragon raised by cats who learns to live peacefully among them. Over time, the once-destructive beast known as “Uncle Wing” grows to understand friendship, kindness, and even humans—thanks to his feline family.

The anime adaptation promises a warm, introspective tone combining cozy slice-of-life storytelling with fantasy charm. Mitsutaka Hirota handles series composition, while Rie Nishino and Chiaki Kurakazu design the characters. The musical score by Takahiro Obata adds emotional depth to this heartwarming tale.

Since debuting on Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2013, The Cat and the Dragon has captured readers with its whimsical storytelling. Its upcoming anime adaptation is set to highlight themes of compassion and coexistence, reminding audiences that even the fiercest creatures can find love and family in the unlikeliest places.
