The world of anime magic schools is about to welcome a new contender, and this one comes with a cursed talking cat. The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch, written by Yousuke Kaneda, best known for Boarding School Juliet, is heading to the small screen in 2026. The adaptation will be handled by LIDENFILMS, with a team that already brings proven experience in crafting engaging and heartfelt anime.

At the center of this upcoming fantasy series is Spica Virgo, a witch apprentice who, despite her bright personality and strong determination, cannot use magic. She dreams of enrolling in a prestigious academy, but with no magical talent, no connections, and no resources, her goal seems impossible. That is, until a black cat named Claude Sirius appears before her.

Claude is not just any feline. Once a powerful magician, he has been cursed and transformed into a cat. With his human life now trapped behind fur and whiskers, he seeks a way to lift the spell. The two form a secret pact, one built on mutual need and budding friendship. Spica wants to master magic, and Claude wants to return to his true form. Together, they aim to overcome their individual limitations and break the curse that binds them.

The anime’s voice cast brings considerable excitement. Kaede Hondo will voice Spica, bringing her optimism and energy to life. Hondo, who previously voiced the character in the manga’s promotional video, expressed her joy at returning to the role, sharing how deeply she connected with the story. Nobunaga Shimazaki takes on the role of Claude Sirius, combining the warmth of a mentor with the comedic quirks of a talking animal. Shimazaki shared how honored he felt to play both the teacher and mascot of the show.

Behind the scenes, the anime is directed by Naomasa Tatsuwa. Midori Goto is handling the series composition, while Takayuki Onoda is in charge of character designs. The manga has been serialized since 2022 on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket platform and has slowly gained a following for its blend of humor, heartfelt mentorship, and fantasy school antics.

The teaser trailer and key visual released alongside the announcement show a light-hearted but magical tone. The animation highlights Spica’s clumsiness and determination, balanced by Claude’s mysterious aura and magical finesse. The dynamic between the two characters promises not just humor but also emotional resonance as they grow together in this enchanted classroom.

According to the official website, the series explores the magical academy world from a unique angle. It is not about the strongest or most powerful student, but about those who struggle and still dare to dream. It is a story about persistence, guidance, and a touch of unexpected magic. And yes, there might just be a kiss involved to undo the curse.

With its charming premise, strong character writing, and an experienced animation team, The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch is shaping up to be a magical treat for 2026.
