The revenge fantasy tale A Livid Lady’s Guide to Getting Even: How I Crushed My Homeland With My Mighty Grimoires has been officially greenlit for an anime. Hobby Japan announced the news on its official X account, also revealing that the English title will be The Furious Princess Decided to Take Revenge. Fans were treated to the first volume cover as part of the reveal, sparking excitement across the community.
Originally written by Metabo Hagure with illustrations by Masami, the light novel series launched on Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2020 before Hobby Japan began publishing it under the HJ Novels label in 2022. Since then, seven volumes have been released, with a manga adaptation by Onooimo also hitting shelves and reaching seven volumes to date. Both the novel and manga are licensed in English by J-Novel Club.
The story follows Elizabeth Leiston, the daughter of a powerful prime minister who is destined to become the future queen of the Kingdom of Haldoria. Her life, however, is shattered when her fiancé humiliates her by publicly ending their engagement. Betrayal follows quickly as she is thrown into jail and slandered with false rumors. Fueled by rage and the unwavering support of her loyal maid Mireille, Elizabeth sets her sights not on redemption but on revenge. Armed with seven mighty grimoires, she vows to crush the kingdom that wronged her and take back her power.
What sets this series apart is its unapologetic embrace of vengeance and power fantasy. Elizabeth is no passive heroine waiting to be saved. She is ruthless, calculated, and ready to wield her grimoires to dismantle an entire nation. This raw and unfiltered take on betrayal and retribution has resonated with readers, and now anime fans will get to see her story come alive in animation.
With the rise of darker revenge-driven stories in recent years, A Livid Lady’s Guide to Getting Even is perfectly timed to ride the wave of global interest in strong, complex female leads. The anime adaptation is set to expand the reach of the franchise even further, cementing Elizabeth’s place among the most iconic vengeful protagonists in modern anime.
