That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is ready to return to the big screen. The second theatrical film in the hit franchise has been officially titled Tensura the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea Arc, with its Japanese premiere date confirmed for February 27, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a new teaser trailer and a fresh visual that builds anticipation for what promises to be another original story crafted by the series’ creator, Fuse.

Once again, Studio 8bit is handling the animation, continuing its long-standing collaboration with the Tensura project. What makes this film particularly exciting is the fact that it is not based on the manga or light novel directly but instead brings a completely original narrative developed and supervised by Fuse himself. This mirrors the approach taken in the franchise’s first film, Scarlet Bond, which was well-received for expanding the universe with new characters and settings while staying true to the tone of the series.

The teaser offers a brief but enticing look at the themes and characters to expect. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the title alone suggests an emotional and high-stakes storyline likely tied to a new location and new characters. Given the success of Scarlet Bond in introducing the character Hiiro, fans can expect this film to similarly explore new emotional and narrative territory while maintaining the action-packed fantasy elements that Tensura is known for.

Fuse, who has been writing the light novel series since 2014, recently stated that he plans to conclude the novels soon. This adds an extra layer of intrigue to the new movie, as it may serve as one of the final anime projects to be closely overseen by the original author while the story is still ongoing. With the light novels illustrated by Mitz Vah and the manga adaptation by Taiki Kawakami, the franchise continues to grow across multiple formats.

The anime adaptation began in 2018 and quickly gained popularity for its unique take on the isekai genre. Following two full seasons released in 2018 and 2021, and a third season that concluded in September 2024, the series has built a massive global fanbase. The announcement of both this second movie and an upcoming Season 4 reinforces the franchise’s momentum going into 2026.

Crunchyroll will continue streaming all three seasons of the anime, as well as the first film. It remains to be seen when Tears of the Azure Sea Arc will release internationally, but given the series' global following, an international premiere or early streaming window is highly anticipated.

With a new chapter in Rimuru’s journey about to unfold, Tensura the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea Arc aims to deliver another compelling addition to a franchise that continues to enchant fans around the world.
