It’s been two decades since The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya rewrote anime history—and Kadokawa is celebrating in style. The studio announced The Gratitude of Haruhi Suzumiya, a 20th-anniversary project launching in 2026 with fresh merchandise and special screenings.

The centerpiece is the revival of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, returning to theaters on February 6, 2026, exactly sixteen years after its original premiere. The re-release expands to 32 theaters across Japan, accompanied by an updated trailer and key visual honoring the late director Yasuhiro Takemoto and Kyoto Animation’s legacy.

Also unveiled is a new KDcolle Haruhi figure based on her Season 2 design, marking the start of a wave of anniversary collectibles.

Since its 2006 debut, Haruhi Suzumiya has inspired countless fans and creators with its mix of mystery, comedy, and metaphysics. Its revival screenings and merchandise confirm that even after twenty years, Haruhi’s influence remains anything but “disappeared.”
